Monk’s Cloth finds its origin in medieval times. It was traditionally used by monks for making apparel, blankets, etc, hence the name “Monk’s Cloth”. With time this cloth has gained prominence and it is now widely used as a versatile foundation fabric by rug hookers and punch needle artists. It is preferred by both beginners and experts alike. Please note that all pre-cut sizes of monk’s cloth from the Oxford Company are measured pre-serging. Size may vary slightly once serged.

  • Available in Pre-cuts & Yards: Monk’s cloth is available in beginner-friendly pre-cuts, as well as in yards. The pre-cut (serged) sizes are 10"x10", 15"x15", 24"x24", 25"x36" and 34"x 46" (All pre-cut sizes are measured pre-serging. Size may vary slightly once serged). By the yard, the fabric is 72" wide and available in 1 yard, 2 yards, and 5 yards length.
  • Flexible and Resilient Fabric: As a resilient backing fabric with a thread count of approximately 13 double threads/inch (2.5cm), it ensures easy stretchability on a hoop or frame for easy punching. This soft-to-touch fabric also ensures hours of comfortable punch needle rug hooking.
  • Easy Pattern Placement: White woven guide lines are spaced 2 inches (5cm) apart on the fabric, and serve as a visual guide for effortless pattern placement. The guide lines offer better precision and control over the fabric when stretched on the frame for punching.
